Club History

Any time is tee time at Pine Brook Country Club, one of Winston-Salem’s oldest and finest golf traditions.  Located just 10 minutes from the heart of downtown, we offer private club amenities at affordable prices.  In addition to our first-class golf experience, our dining and ballroom facilities accommodate a variety of gatherings, from a la carte dining to business meetings to weddings, and our banquet staff is highly regarded for their outstanding culinary creations as well as their professionalism.

At Pine Brook, members enjoy a variety of activities, in the clubhouse, on the golf course, and at the pool.  Our relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere provides just the right setting for members of every age to enjoy.  Our junior golf program embraces children of all ages and skills levels, and during the summer months our pool adds yet another dimension of fitness, family and fun!   Clubhouse activities abound throughout the year, with a wide variety of both fine dining and family-oriented events.

Pine Brook Country Club traces its origins to the early 1950s, when a group of local businessmen informally discussed the idea of starting a new golf club in the area.  By 1953 a twelve member Board of Directors had been formed and plans were finalized for the purchase of land.  In 1954 construction began on the former 300 acre site of the Cox plantation.  Since that time the club has established itself as an integral part of the rich local golf tradition.

Our Golf Course

The hallmark of Pine Brook is its beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf course. Designed by Ellis Maples in 1954, the 6500 yard course is nestled in a beautiful rural setting that is surprisingly close to the heart of town.  Tucked into a rural backdrop of Carolina pines and mature hardwoods, our course features lush bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens. Golfers of all skill levels enjoy both open terrain fairways, with holes following beautiful streams, and inclined fairways rimmed with trees and natural landscaping.

Pine Brook maintains a full fleet of golf carts while respecting the rights of those who prefer to walk the course.  Our driving range, chipping green and putting greens provide excellent year-round practice opportunities.

Because our membership is limited, play flows smoothly at Pine Brook.  Rarely do you encounter a traffic jam or delays on our golf course.  In most cases tee times are readily available to our members, and those who prefer to walk the course may do so at any time, on any day.  Our members enjoy unlimited golf, and our course is available, as long as weather permits, every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas days.

Our Clubhouse
Although Pine Brook’s historical roots run deep, our vision is for the future.  In 2000 we replaced our original clubhouse with a brand new 18,000 square foot facility.  The new clubhouse, which strikes a stately pose against a rural backdrop, offers modern features in a traditional setting.  We pride ourselves on the comfortable and friendly environment we provide for our members.

Our dining facilities offer a variety of options, from informal patio dining to intimate and formal presentations.  And our ballroom can adapt to a number of uses, from a small business meeting to a large wedding.  Pine Brook is a relaxed and well-managed environment in which our members enjoy great golf, camaraderie with friends and colleagues, and fine dining opportunities – all  at a very affordable price.
